Patrick Ryan Jobe was a 40-year-old White man known as a faithful and loving father, son, and friend. A self-employed auto and diesel mechanic in the Henderson, Kentucky, area, he was a member of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Born in Huntington, West Virginia, he loved boating, hunting, off-roading, and spending time with his family, which included his four children.
On the night of March 10, 2025, sheriff's deputies responded to a call at a residence on Rudy Road and found
Jobe deceased in the garage. His girlfriend, 36-year-old Lauren Kate Jarvis, was with him and initially told authorities she did not know what had happened. As the coroner was inspecting Jobe’s body, a suspected gunshot wound was discovered on his back. The investigation that followed revealed a tragic and unusual set of circumstances.
Detectives learned that Jobe had been wearing a bulletproof vest at the time of the shooting. According to investigators, Jarvis later stated that Jobe had yelled at her and pressured her to shoot him while he wore the vest, apparently to test if it would work. She fired a rifle, but the bullet struck Jobe in the upper back, just above the area the ballistic vest was covering.
Jarvis was arrested and initially charged with second-degree manslaughter. As the case proceeded, the charge was amended to murder, and she was held at the Henderson County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond. A sheriff's office official testified during a preliminary hearing that it appeared there had been no prior intention to hurt or kill Jobe.
The case concluded without a trial. After consultations with the sheriff's office and Jobe's parents, prosecutors reached a plea agreement with Jarvis. She pleaded guilty to manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence. In May 2026, Lauren Jarvis was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Under the terms of her sentence, she is required to serve 85% of that time before becoming eligible for parole.
