In the late evening hours of June 28, 2020, tragedy struck in Owensboro, Kentucky, ending the life of 49-year-old Dustin Walker. A White male, Walker was inside a residence in the 000-100 block of Hanning Lane when the Owensboro Police Department responded to a call of a shooting at approximately 11:11 p.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Walker suffering from a single gunshot wound to his abdomen.
He was quickly transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting swiftly pointed to a suspect, another Owensboro resident named Christopher N. Clements, who was 31 years old at the time of the incident. Reports indicate that the shooting was the result of an altercation between the two men. Just a few days later, on July 2, 2020, Clements was apprehended by law enforcement and formally charged with the murder of Dustin Walker.
As the legal process unfolded, the initial charge against Christopher N. Clements was amended. In a development that occurred in December 2022, Clements pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of reckless homicide. This plea was part of an agreement that also saw the dismissal of a persistent felony offender charge against him. For his role in the death of Dustin Walker, Clements was sentenced to five years in prison. This sentence was slated to begin after he completed a separate eight-year sentence for a conviction on a charge of a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, which he had begun serving in June of 2022.
