In the late summer of 2020, a tragedy unfolded in the small community of Leburn, Kentucky, forever altering the lives of one family. On the evening of August 29th, the quiet of Possum Trot Road was shattered by the arrival of Kentucky State Police, who were responding to a 911 call reporting a woman with gunshot wounds. Inside a residence, they found 49-year-old Tessa Rene Slone, a White/Caucasian female, suffering from life-threatening injuries.
First responders rushed Tessa to Hazard ARH, and she was later transferred to the UK Medical Center in a desperate attempt to save her life. Despite the medical intervention, Tessa Rene Slone passed away on August 30, 2020, just two days before what would have been her 50th birthday. Her death left behind a grieving family, including her children and grandchildren.
The investigation into the events of that fateful night painted a grim and heartbreaking picture. At the same home where Tessa was discovered, authorities also found her husband, Jackie Slone, deceased. His death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Law enforcement officials identified Jackie Slone as the sole suspect in the shooting of his wife. It is believed that he turned the gun on himself after inflicting the fatal wounds upon Tessa. As a result, no further arrests were made in connection with her death.
