In the early morning hours of May 12, 2021, the life of 34-year-old Andrea Hernandez was tragically cut short in her Richmond, Kentucky, home. A Hispanic mother of three, she was discovered by police at her residence on Earlene Court around 3:30 a.m. with a fatal gunshot wound. The grim discovery was made after the Lexington Police Department alerted Richmond authorities about a possible homicide.
Investigators quickly identified Andrea’s husband, Hector Hernandez-Diaz, as the primary
suspect in her death. It is believed that he fled the scene following the shooting. Authorities issued a public alert, describing Hernandez-Diaz as armed and dangerous and providing details of the gray 2003 Volkswagen Passat he was thought to be driving. A manhunt was initiated to locate him.
In the aftermath of her violent death, Andrea Hernandez's family was faced with the difficult task of making funeral arrangements. A GoFundMe campaign was established to raise the necessary funds to return her body to Mexico, her country of origin. The community was left to mourn the loss of a woman remembered for her happy and caring nature, as law enforcement continued their search for the man suspected of ending her life.
