In the summer of 2023, a domestic dispute in Richmond, Kentucky, escalated into a tragedy that claimed the lives of two people, including 24-year-old Makayla Walker. On the night of Saturday, July 29th, police responded to a call about a shooting on Foxhaven Drive. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
Officers first found 33-year-old Warren Bowman on the ground with gunshot wounds.
Nearby, inside a vehicle, they located Makayla Walker, also suffering from fatal gunshot injuries. Despite the efforts of emergency crews, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. The initial investigation pointed towards a domestic altercation between Walker and her boyfriend, 24-year-old Stephon Laroy Baskerville, as the catalyst for the violence. It is believed that Bowman may have been a bystander who attempted to intervene on Walker's behalf.
Immediately following the shooting, Baskerville fled the area on foot, prompting an overnight search by law enforcement. The search concluded the next morning when officers found Baskerville walking near South Keeneland Drive and Tates Creek. He was taken into custody without incident.
Following his arrest, Stephon Laroy Baskerville was charged with murder-domestic violence, murder, and tampering with physical evidence. The community was left to mourn the loss of two lives, with family and friends of both Makayla Walker and Warren Bowman setting up online fundraisers to help with funeral expenses.
