In the quiet community of Rockfield, Kentucky, a violent encounter on Valentine's Day in 2021 brought a tragic end to the life of 74-year-old Russell Heard. The male victim was at his home on Galloways Mill Road when multiple individuals arrived, seeking his son, Bradley Heard. The situation quickly spiraled out of control.
An argument erupted, and one of the visitors, Daniel Moore, produced a handgun and fired multiple shots. Both Russell and Bradley Heard were struck by the gunfire. The elder Heard was pronounced dead at the scene by the Warren County Coroner, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. His son, Bradley, was also wounded, having been shot three times during the altercation.
In the midst of the chaos, Bradley Heard allegedly stabbed Daniel Moore. Following the incident, both Moore and Bradley Heard were taken into custody. Moore faced a charge of murder in connection with Russell Heard's death. Bradley Heard was initially charged with first-degree assault for the stabbing of Moore.
Investigators later learned that Moore had gone to the property to retrieve a gun he claimed had been taken from him by a woman who was with Bradley Heard in a camper on the property. According to Moore's account, Bradley Heard emerged from the residence armed with two knives and advanced toward him. Moore stated that he fired a warning shot before firing additional rounds, claiming he was unaware that Russell Heard had been hit. Bradley Heard later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of first-degree wanton endangerment and was sentenced to five years in prison. A grand jury ultimately declined to indict Daniel Moore on a manslaughter charge.
