In the Russell neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, a 21-year-old Black male named Alec Tinko Pettiway was fatally shot on the night of Sunday, March 7, 2021. Responding to a call, Louisville Metro Police Department officers found Pettiway in the 900 block of Esquire Alley with at least one gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that Pettiway's cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and officially ruled it a homicide.
Pettiway, known to friends and family as 'Tinko,' was remembered as a loving and motivated young man. Born on August 10, 1999, in Louisville, he was described as charming, handsome, and energetic, with a memorable smile and laugh. He was a protective figure for his sisters and had earned a scholarship for culinary arts. At the time of his death, he was a father to two children, Ah'Khari Hassan and Jai'Alyx Pettiway, and a step-son, Cali King Moore.
Despite the classification of his death as a homicide, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the case. The Louisville Metro Police Department has included Alec Pettiway's case in their list of open homicide investigations.
