In the early evening of a Sunday in Louisville, a verbal altercation outside of a liquor store escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 44-year-old Tyrell Miller. On November 10, 2024, Miller was shot outside the Bloom Liquor Store on Taylor Boulevard. Despite his injuries, he managed to walk three blocks before collapsing on Henry Avenue, where he was found by Louisville Metro Police around 9 p.m.
He was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.
The investigation into the shooting led police to identify a person of interest, and they released surveillance images to the public in an effort to identify the individual. A tip from the community proved crucial in the case. An officer was able to compare the surveillance footage with a video from an earlier, unrelated incident involving the suspected individual, which appeared to be a match. This led investigators to 35-year-old Jervon Woodson.
Woodson was initially arrested on an unrelated warrant on November 17, 2024. During his arrest, he was identified as the shooter in the death of Tyrell Miller. Surveillance video from the liquor store reportedly showed Woodson raising a handgun and shooting Miller after their verbal dispute. Woodson was subsequently charged with murder. He was also facing charges for possession of meth, heroin, and marijuana, as well as possession of paraphernalia. A judge set his bond at $500,000, and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
