In the summer of 2021, the community of Ashland, Kentucky, was shaken by the violent death of a beloved local figure. Irvin Pereira, a 65-year-old Black male, was a talented and hardworking chef, restaurant owner, and an inspirational figure to many who knew him. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, he had built a life in the United States, eventually opening Blazer's Restaurant and Bakery in Ashland, where he garnered awards and the friendship of many in the community.
