In the spring of 2012, a quiet Phoenix neighborhood was shaken by a brutal act of violence that ultimately claimed the life of a longtime resident. Nancy Newton, an 82-year-old woman, was the victim of a home invasion in the early morning hours of April 22, 2012. Living alone in her residence near 28th Street and Earl Drive, she was confronted and assaulted by an unknown intruder inside her own bedroom.
Following the violent encounter, the assailant fled the scene, leaving the severely
injured woman to fend for herself. It is reported that it took her over an hour to be able to reach a telephone to call for help. Once alerted, emergency services rushed her to a nearby hospital to be treated for the numerous injuries she had sustained during the attack. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, her condition did not improve, and she succumbed to her injuries four days later on April 26, 2012. The Medical Examiner's Office later determined that the trauma she endured during the assault directly contributed to her death.
In the years following the incident, the case has remained unsolved, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Nancy Newton. The Phoenix Police Department has continued to investigate the cold case, seeking any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the individual responsible. As part of their efforts, authorities have publicly circulated a photograph of a man who was seen in the vicinity of Newton's home around the time of the attack. While he has not been officially named as a suspect, investigators believe he may have information pertinent to the case.
