In the late summer of 2021, the life of 22-year-old Brittany Renee Pace was tragically cut short in her Glasgow, Kentucky, home. On September 2, 2021, Brittany and her husband, David Allen Pace, aged 24, were found deceased inside their residence at 310 N. Race St. The young mother of two was a homemaker who attended Shepherd's House Church. The couple's two children were present in the home at the time of the incident but were physically unharmed.
The circumstances of their deaths were
quickly brought to light when a relative, Cody N. Bacon, 21, called 911 to report that he had fatally shot the couple. When police arrived at the scene, they found Bacon on the sidewalk, waving his arms. He was taken into custody without incident. Bacon, who was David Pace's brother and Brittany's brother-in-law, also lived at the residence with the couple and their children.
During questioning, Bacon confessed to the killings, stating to police that he was 'tired of his brother and sister-in-law arguing/ fussing with the children.' He admitted to emptying a 9mm handgun, shooting both Brittany and David while their children stood behind him. Following his arrest, Bacon was indicted on two counts of murder and one count of first-degree wanton endangerment. He initially expressed remorse for his actions.
In September 2023, Cody Nathaniel Bacon pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. The plea agreement averted a potential death penalty trial. In November 2023, he was sentenced to life in prison, with the stipulation that he would not be eligible for parole for at least 25 years. During the sentencing hearing, family members, including the mothers of both the victims and the perpetrator, delivered emotional victim impact statements, speaking of their profound grief and the devastating impact the tragedy has had on their family.
