Melissa Ann Miller, a 54-year-old female, was fatally shot on the evening of Sunday, May 23, 2021, at her residence on Ann Avenue in Glasgow, Kentucky. She was a caregiver to the elderly and was known for her kind nature. The incident that led to her death began with a social media marketplace listing for a computer her grandson was selling.
A man from Nashville, Tennessee, later identified as 24-year-old Aaron Aiden Rodriguez, arranged to purchase the computer.
He traveled to Miller's home under a false name with the intention of robbing the sellers. Rodriguez arrived as a passenger in a white, four-door sedan driven by a female. During the transaction, he shot Melissa Miller from the passenger seat of the vehicle. After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene. Miller was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound.
The Glasgow Police Department launched an investigation, and with the help of Miller's grandson who witnessed the shooting, they were able to identify a suspect. Information about the suspect vehicle was also crucial in the investigation. Detectives from the Nashville Metro Police Department located Rodriguez and the vehicle at his workplace in Williamson County, Tennessee. He was taken into custody without incident. The female driver was also identified, with police indicating that charges against her were pending.
Aaron Rodriguez was charged with murder and first-degree robbery. He was extradited to Barren County and lodged in the Barren County Detention Center. In February 2024, Rodriguez pleaded guilty to the charges as part of a plea agreement to avoid a potential death penalty sentence. In March 2024, he was formally sentenced to 40 years in prison. He will be required to serve at least 20 years before becoming eligible for parole. During his sentencing, Rodriguez apologized for his actions, stating he was on drugs at the time of the murder. Family members of Melissa Miller provided victim impact statements, expressing the profound and lasting pain his actions had caused.
