In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 22, 2022, a sense of disquiet settled over a neighborhood in Oak Grove, Kentucky. At approximately 3:42 a.m., the Kentucky State Police were called to investigate a shooting that had shattered the predawn calm at a residence on Tyler Street. Upon their arrival, detectives discovered the body of 18-year-old Gailon J. Toler of Clarksville, Tennessee. He was found just outside a mobile home, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The Christian County Coroner was summoned to the scene and pronounced the young male deceased.
The investigation into the death of Gailon Toler quickly led authorities to identify a suspect. An arrest warrant for murder was obtained for 20-year-old Tyron M. Holt, also of Clarksville. The day after the shooting, on May 23, 2022, Holt turned himself in to the Oak Grove Police Department and was taken into custody. As the legal process unfolded, a second individual, Omega Plaisime, was also implicated in the crime. Plaisime was charged with murder, while Holt's charge was later amended to complicity to murder, based on witness statements indicating he may not have been the gunman.
The case against the two men has proceeded through the court system with a series of hearings and legal maneuvers. Both Holt and Plaisime were at one point released on ankle monitors while awaiting trial, a decision that was later impacted when Plaisime was arrested on new charges after allegedly damaging his monitoring device. The trial for both men has been postponed to allow for further evidence testing and, in Plaisime's case, a mental evaluation. The legal proceedings continue, leaving the final resolution in the death of Gailon J. Toler pending.
