In the summer of 2022, the life of 19-year-old Demetrius A. Shelton Jr., a Black male from Lexington, Kentucky, was tragically cut short. On the evening of August 13th, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the vibrant life of the young man was extinguished in a burst of gunfire in the 1300 block of Centre Parkway. Officers from the Lexington Police Department rushed to the scene following reports of a shooting, where they found Shelton suffering from grievous gunshot wounds.
