In the late summer of 2007, a 42-year-old man named David Wayne Briley vanished from his life in Lake Charles, Louisiana, leaving behind a void of information and a family searching for answers. The specific date of his disappearance remains uncertain, with reports varying between August 8, August 16, and August 20 of that year. On the day he was last seen, David left the trailer he shared with his girlfriend off Highway 397. He walked to a nearby convenience store, made a purchase, and was never definitively seen or heard from again. At the time he went missing, David was wearing a distinctive white t-shirt featuring a parachute or skydiving emblem, along with blue jeans and steel-toed work boots that had resin stains on them. He also wore a gold chain with a crucifix, a watch with a silver band, an earring in his left ear, and possibly a black and white Nascar baseball cap. David was navigating a difficult period in his life around the time he disappeared. He had recently lost his job and was reportedly involved with drugs. His physical appearance was well-documented; he was a white male, standing 5'10" and weighing about 150 pounds, with brown, receding hair and brown eyes. He wore silver, metal-rimmed eyeglasses and had several distinguishing features, including a birthmark above his right eye, a pierced left ear, and both nipples pierced. His body was adorned with several tattoos: a castle on his right arm, a moon on his upper arm, and designs of a parachute and dragons across his chest. These details create a vivid picture of the man whose sudden absence sparked a long and frustrating investigation. The investigation into David's disappearance, led by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, has unfortunately yielded few answers over the years. Despite their efforts, all leads have been exhausted, leaving the case cold. David's family harbors the painful belief that he is no longer alive. His brother suspects that the individuals David was with around the time he vanished hold the key to what truly happened. In an effort to generate new leads, his case was included in the Louisiana Crime Stoppers Cold Case card deck, which is distributed throughout the state's prisons, with the hope that someone might come forward with information. The case of David Wayne Briley is a somber story of a man who disappeared under troubling circumstances, leaving his loved ones in a state of perpetual uncertainty. With little information available and no significant developments, his disappearance remains an unsolved mystery.
