Victor Damian, aged 15, was fatally shot on March 18, 2013, in the South Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago. Known as "King Smokes," Victor was shot three times in the back of the head at point-blank range while he was on the sidewalk. The gunman approached him from behind, grabbed his neck, and fired the shots, leaving him fatally wounded. Witnesses reported that the shooter was one of four people in a blue sedan that had pulled up next to the teenager.
Despite the presence of onlookers, the gunman acted nonchalantly, leaving the scene quietly after the shooting.
Victor had reportedly been seen flashing gang signs, and witnesses speculated that the shooter might have been from a rival gang. The incident occurred on the 2800 block of South Spaulding Avenue, where neighbors later set up a memorial of candles and notes in Victor's honor. The tragedy unfolded on a particularly violent day in Chicago, where multiple shootings left several people wounded on the West Side within a short span of time. Despite his possible gang affiliations, Victor was remembered by his neighbors as a respectful teenager who had been kind to those around him. He was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital later that night.
