In the autumn of 2022, a young mother's life was tragically cut short in her Louisville, Kentucky apartment. Kierrea Stone-Gonzalez, a 23-year-old female, was found deceased on September 21, 2022, in her residence on Rangeland Road. The discovery was made by her own mother and sister, who had grown worried after being unable to reach her. When they entered the apartment, they were met with a horrific scene: Kierrea had been fatally shot. Adding to the tragedy, her two-year-old child was found alive in the home, having been left alone with her mother's body for several days.
The investigation into Kierrea's death quickly pointed to domestic violence. According to police, she had been shot in the back of the head on or around September 17th. Suspicion fell upon 28-year-old Jeremy Jamar Thompson, with whom Kierrea had been romantically involved. Investigators uncovered threatening messages Thompson had sent to her on Facebook, in which he stated he would 'smoke her and get away with it.' Further evidence revealed that Thompson had confessed to two other people via Facebook that he had shot someone.
In December 2022, Jeremy Thompson was arrested and charged with murder-domestic violence and wanton endangerment. During police questioning, he admitted that he and Stone-Gonzalez had been arguing about infidelity, which led to a struggle over a gun, resulting in her being shot. Following his arrest, he was held on a $1 million bond.
In May 2025, a jury found Jeremy Jamar Thompson, then 30, guilty of the murder of Kierrea Stone-Gonzalez and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. The jury recommended a sentence of 35 years in prison for the murder charge, to be served concurrently with a five-year sentence for the handgun charge. According to the recommendation, he will not be eligible for probation and must serve a minimum of 20 years before the possibility of parole.
