In the chill of a Louisville evening on December 5, 2022, the life of Kenneth David Sauer, Jr., a 28-year-old Caucasian male, was tragically cut short. He and a friend, 24-year-old Jimy Mejias, were discovered with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the Arthur Street Hotel in Old Louisville. The Louisville Metro Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 7:15 p.m. While Mejias was rushed to the UofL Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, Sauer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two men, who were described by their families as being as close as brothers, were not guests at the hotel. The investigation into the double homicide would later reveal a chilling detail from surveillance footage, which captured one of the suspects going through Sauer's car after moving his body.

In the wake of the double homicide, a 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the killings, though his identity was not publicly disclosed at the time. The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit continued to investigate the tragic event, appealing to the public for any information that could bring clarity and justice for the grieving families of both men.

Known for his spiritual faith and a vibrant love for life, Kenneth was a man of many passions. He was an avid fan of UofL Basketball, and had a deep appreciation for tattoos, snowboarding, and traveling. His interests were eclectic, ranging from a fondness for shoes to a nostalgic enjoyment of 90's Nickelodeon cartoons. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of love and a host of treasured memories.
