James Curtis Butts, aged 35, was fatally shot on May 17, 2015, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. in the 2100 block of 4th Street N. Officers arrived at the scene and provided medical aid until an ambulance transported Butts to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where he succumbed to his injuries. The Hennepin County medical examiner's office confirmed that Butts had been shot multiple times.
