In the pre-dawn hours of February 1, 2021, a fatal encounter unfolded in the parking lot of a FedEx facility in Mahtomedi, a suburb of Saint Paul, Minnesota, leaving two men dead in what authorities would later rule a murder-suicide. Jimmy Todd Wilemon, a 58-year-old Caucasian male from Fulton, Mississippi, was found deceased at the scene by Washington County sheriff's deputies who were responding to a call around 2:26 a.m.
Wilemon, a truck driver, was shot and killed by David Peterson,
a 49-year-old man from Blaine, Minnesota. Peterson was discovered at the scene with a severe gunshot wound and was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he later died. Investigators found a gun at the location and determined that no other suspects were being sought, assuring the public that there was no ongoing threat.
The investigation revealed that both Wilemon and Peterson were truck drivers, and the motive for the tragic event was believed to be Wilemon's involvement in a relationship with Peterson's wife. Following an argument between the two men, Peterson shot Wilemon before turning the gun on himself. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office officially ruled the incident a murder-suicide.
