In a quiet area of Saint Cloud, Minnesota, the life of a 25-year-old Caucasian female, Keisa Marie Lange, came to a tragic and violent end on June 3, 2021. Her body was discovered on the side of a road in the 4300 block of Cooper Avenue South. An autopsy later confirmed that Lange died from a single gunshot wound to the head, and her death was officially ruled a homicide.
Investigators noted that it appeared she had been brought to the location by a vehicle, which was no longer at the scene when her body was found.
The investigation into her death quickly gained momentum, leading to the arrest of four individuals. Deantae Demond Davis, then 23, Kenneth Jamal Carter, 26, Angela Renee Jones, 33, and a fourth suspect, Alicia M. Lewis, 36, were all taken into custody. Initially, they faced charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder, with Jones also facing a kidnapping charge. However, a grand jury later indicted Davis, Carter, and Jones on more severe charges, including first-degree premeditated murder. Lewis faced charges of abetting first-degree murder.
According to the criminal complaint, a witness saw Lange leave a St. Cloud apartment with Davis, Carter, and Jones in a Ford Fusion on the morning of her death. The group allegedly drove to the secluded dead-end street where Davis is accused of shooting Lange while she was in the backseat of the car. Her body was then removed from the vehicle. Carter was also accused of firing at Lange as she lay on the street. In an attempt to cover their tracks, Jones later admitted to police that they burned their clothing, destroyed their cell phones, and sanitized the vehicle. Despite their efforts, forensic investigators were able to find evidence of blood in the back seat of the car.
During the course of the investigation, authorities noted "notable similarities" between Lange's murder and another homicide that occurred just a day earlier, though a direct connection was not immediately clear. The investigation into Lange's death culminated in the conviction of DeAntae D. Davis in May 2023. A jury found him guilty on four felony counts, including premeditated first-degree murder. Another suspect, Alicia Lewis, pleaded guilty to aiding an offender. The case against Angela Jones was complicated by her connection to the other homicide, while Kenneth Carter was acquitted of all charges in March of the same year.
