In the early moments of a Minneapolis morning, the life of a 19-year-old Black male named Lamontay Giovanni Brown was tragically cut short. On June 25, 2022, shortly after midnight, the sound of gunfire pierced the air near the intersection of Lowry and Aldrich avenues in the northern part of the city. This prompted a ShotSpotter activation and several 911 calls reporting a man down behind a residence on the 700 block of 31st Avenue North.
Responding officers arrived to a grim scene,
discovering Lamontay, who was from Danville, Illinois, suffering from grave gunshot wounds. Police and emergency medical crews rendered aid at the scene before rushing him to North Memorial Medical Center. Despite their efforts, Lamontay Giovanni Brown succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office would later confirm that his death was a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the back.
Minneapolis police canvassed the area, searching for evidence and seeking out potential witnesses to the shooting that marked the city's 43rd homicide of the year. However, the investigation has yet to yield any arrests, and authorities have not released any descriptions or names of potential suspects.
