The incident occurred following an argument between Fredrickson and her on-and-off boyfriend, Michael Klinger, aged 37. Klinger, who had a history of violent crimes and drug-related offenses, shot Fredrickson twice near her heart.
The shooting took place at her residence on the 5400 block of 68th Avenue N.
Witnesses to the crime included a man and a woman who were staying at Fredrickson's home that night. They reported hearing Fredrickson yell, 'just stop, Mike,' before the fatal gunshots were fired. The witnesses fled the scene through a window, fearing for their safety, and later provided crucial information to the police. Fredrickson was found deceased on her couch when authorities arrived.
Michael Klinger was apprehended in St. Louis Park, MN, after a rental car company provided information that led investigators to his location. During his arrest, authorities discovered four handguns, three of which were reported stolen, along with 445 grams of methamphetamine and over $5,000 in cash in his possession. Additional ammunition and magazines were found in his hotel room.
Klinger was charged with second-degree murder and took a plea deal in December 2022. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison on January 12, 2023. Initially, he faced additional charges, including first-degree possession of an aggravated controlled substance and illegal gun possession, but these charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
