Heywood Jones, a 34-year-old resident of Minneapolis, MN, was fatally shot on October 6, 2022. The incident occurred in the Jordan neighborhood, specifically on the 2000 block of 30th Avenue North. According to reports, the shooting stemmed from an argument between Jones and another individual. Witnesses described a brief altercation between Jones and a man in a gold SUV.
The suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Jacob Lewis, allegedly shot Jones from inside the vehicle before exiting and shooting him again in the back. Jones was found by police suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Jacob Lewis, a resident of St. Francis, was arrested on October 8, 2022, in connection with the shooting. A woman who was in the SUV with Lewis at the time of the incident provided crucial information to the police. She stated that the pair were attempting to buy drugs when the situation escalated, leading to the shooting. After the incident, Lewis reportedly removed the SUV's license plates and moved the vehicle into the driveway of the house where he and the woman lived. Lewis later confirmed to the police that he was present at the scene during the shooting. He has been charged with second-degree murder and faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted.
