On December 12, 2022, 27-year-old Abdi Omar Abukar was found with gunshot wounds in the driver's seat of a vehicle on the 500 block of Knox Avenue North in Minneapolis. The Minneapolis Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter activation around 10 p.m. and discovered Abukar unconscious and suffering from his injuries. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene and subsequent hospitalization at Hennepin County Medical Center Abukar succumbed to his injuries on December 15, 2022.

Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Abukar died from complications of gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide. Preliminary investigations revealed that a man was seen running from the area and a vehicle was observed driving away around the time shots were fired. However, no detailed descriptions of the suspect or suspects were provided by the police.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Abukar's death.
