On July 31, 2022, a 31-year-old Hispanic male named Juan Rodriguez was found deceased in Las Vegas, Nevada. The discovery was made around noon in the 4900 block of East Cartier Avenue, near Nellis Boulevard and Carey Avenue. Rodriguez was located in the driver's seat of a vehicle, and what was initially a call about a suspicious vehicle soon turned into a homicide investigation led by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
An examination revealed that Rodriguez had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The investigation into the shooting death of Juan Rodriguez continued for several months. Then, on March 1, 2023, a significant development occurred in the case when an arrest was made. Authorities apprehended 44-year-old Erec Jimenez in Arizona in connection with the homicide.
Following his arrest, Erec Jimenez was booked on a charge of open murder and was awaiting extradition back to Las Vegas to face legal proceedings for the shooting of Juan Rodriguez. While an arrest has been made, law enforcement has not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting or the nature of the relationship, if any, between Jimenez and Rodriguez. The investigation is considered ongoing.
