In the autumn of 2014, the community of Dodge City, Kansas, was shaken by the discovery of a local man's body. Fabian Corral, a 54-year-old Hispanic male, was found deceased on the morning of October 26th behind the 4H Building. Law enforcement from the Dodge City Police Department, Ford County Sheriff's Department, and the Kansas Highway Patrol were called to the scene at the 900 block of W. Park around 9:30 a.m. The case was immediately investigated as a homicide.
An autopsy later revealed that Corral had died from multiple gunshot wounds.
As the investigation progressed, authorities identified a suspect in the killing. An arrest warrant was issued for 25-year-old Alejandro Ocon-Meraz for first-degree murder. A bond for his arrest was set at $500,000. Ocon-Meraz was described as being 5'8" with brown hair and brown eyes. He has distinctive tattoos, including a scorpion on his neck and praying hands on his left upper arm. Authorities also noted that he may use the alias Jose Medina-Martinez.
In the weeks that followed, the search for Ocon-Meraz continued, and the investigation into Corral's death remained active. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation assisted local law enforcement, at one point searching a pond on the north side of Dodge City for evidence connected to the murder. As of early December 2014, Alejandro Ocon-Meraz remained at large.
