On a Sunday morning in Dodge City, Kansas, the life of 55-year-old Jesus Ochoa-Morales, a Hispanic male, was tragically cut short in a violent series of events. On August 9, 2015, at approximately 10:25 AM, police were called to the parking lot of a Waters True Value hardware store on West Frontview Street. There they discovered Ochoa-Morales suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to the Western Plains Medical Complex, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and died.
The violence did not end there. Shortly after the shooting of Ochoa-Morales, law enforcement received reports that the man suspected of his murder had abducted a 48-year-old woman named Maria Monreal from outside a Walmart on 14th Avenue. The suspect was identified as 58-year-old Isaias Monreal. About an hour later, police located Isaias Monreal's vehicle on Crawford Street. As officers approached, a grim scene unfolded. Isaias Monreal shot Maria Monreal before turning the gun on himself.
Maria Monreal was fatally wounded and died from her injuries. Isaias Monreal was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Wichita in critical condition from the self-inflicted gunshot wound. A couple of days later, he also died from his injuries. The investigation into the tragic events of that day concluded with the death of the sole suspect, bringing a somber end to a violent outburst that claimed three lives.
