In the early morning hours of June 10, 2016, the life of Troy E. Philbrick, a 39-year-old Caucasian male from Wichita, Kansas, was tragically cut short. An unknown individual shot and killed Philbrick in his home located in the 4200 block of East Wildflower Circle, in the Oaklawn area situated between the city limits of Wichita and Derby. Emergency services were dispatched to the residence around 4 a.m.
after receiving a 911 call from one of the four other people present in the house who reported hearing a noise and then gunshots.
Upon their arrival, deputies from the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office discovered Philbrick with at least one gunshot wound. None of the other residents in the home witnessed the shooting. Despite the immediate response, Philbrick succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Investigators with the sheriff's office believe that the shooting was not a random act of violence and that Philbrick was the intended target. However, they have not publicly identified a motive or any potential suspects in the years following the incident.
Known to his loved ones as "Bam Bam" and described as a "gentle giant," Troy Philbrick was a former diesel mechanic. He was a husband, father, and soon-to-be grandfather at the time of his death. The case remains an unsolved homicide, and the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office continues to ask for anyone with information to come forward. There have been no arrests made in connection with his murder, leaving his family and community searching for answers.
