In the summer of 2020, on June 19th, the life of 21-year-old Kevin A. Palma-Rodriguez was tragically cut short in Syracuse, Kansas. A 911 call at approximately 11:57 a.m. reported a shooting at the Country Café apartments, drawing deputies from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office to the scene. Inside one of the apartments, they discovered Palma-Rodriguez, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was called in to
assist with the homicide investigation. Their agents and Crime Scene Response Team worked alongside the local sheriff's office to piece together the events that led to the young man's death. The investigation quickly led them to a residence at 310 W. Hwy 50, Apt. 9, in Syracuse, where the KBI High Risk Warrant Team executed a search warrant.
Following the search, authorities issued an arrest warrant for 25-year-old Amner Y. Tejada-Vigil, also known by the name Jeovany Vijil, on a charge of first-degree murder. Tejada-Vigil was a resident of the apartment that was searched. The investigation also implicated a second individual, and an arrest warrant was issued for 43-year-old Ismael Gomez-Carvajal. The charges against Gomez-Carvajal include conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and criminal solicitation in connection with Palma-Rodriguez's death.
