David "Ray" Ninemire, a 68-year-old man, was tragically murdered on August 15, 2003, during an armed robbery at the Westwood Apple Market in Westwood, Kansas. At around 6 a.m., a masked assailant entered the store and took a female employee hostage. Ninemire, the store manager, rushed to help the employee, and in the process, was fatally shot by the gunman.
