On the evening of April 14, 2021, a burst of gunfire in the parking lot of a Kare Pharmacy in Leavenworth, Kansas, tragically cut short the life of 12-year-old Brian Derek "BJ" Henderson, a Black male from Kansas City. The young boy was in the backseat of a black Volkswagen Jetta when the shooting occurred around 6:45 p.m. Initially, Leavenworth police responded to calls of shots fired and found only shell casings at the scene.
