Trisha L. Benjamin, a 41-year-old White woman, was killed in Wichita, Kansas, in the early morning of April 24, 2021. Just after 5 a.m., Sedgwick County sheriff's deputies responded to a call about shots fired at the Englewood Mobile Home Park in the 3200 block of East MacArthur. When they arrived, deputies had to force their way into one of the homes.
Inside, they discovered Trisha and a man, 42-year-old Nathan Brock, both deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
The investigation revealed that Steven Fessenden was also at the home. According to an affidavit, police found him in a back bedroom. He told investigators that he, Trisha, and Nathan had been partying together before he went to bed. Fessenden claimed that when he woke up to walk his dog, he found the pair dead. He and another person then called dispatchers to report the deaths.
Detectives with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office arrested Fessenden on April 27, 2021, booking him for the murders. However, he was not formally charged at that time and was later released. The investigation continued, and in October 2022, authorities arrested Fessenden a second time in connection with the killings. This time, he was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and criminal use of a weapon. His bond was set at $1 million.
The case came to a resolution in 2025. In August of that year, Steven Fessenden pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of Trisha Benjamin and Nathan Brock. On October 10, 2025, a Sedgwick County District Court judge sentenced Fessenden to 188 months, or 15 and a half years, in prison. As of October 2025, the case is considered closed.
