In the fading afternoon light of October 15, 2021, the life of 21-year-old DeSabian Williams, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire at an apartment complex in Wichita, Kansas. The incident, which also left two other men wounded, unfolded around 4 p.m. in the 600 block of South Eastern, near the busy intersection of Kellogg and Rock Road, prompting a flurry of 911 calls from concerned residents who reported hearing gunshots.
When police officers arrived at the
scene, they discovered a grim tableau. Inside one of the apartment buildings, they found Williams, who had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The area was described as an extensive crime scene, with several firearms and other evidentiary items recovered by investigators. The two other men who were shot did not remain at the complex. One was later found at a restaurant in the 100 block of South Rock Road, from where he was transported to a hospital. The other victim arrived at a local hospital by private vehicle. At the time of the initial reports, both of these men remained hospitalized.
