In the early morning hours of April 24, 2022, a night of socializing in Wichita, Kansas, turned tragic for Nyron Bowen, a 31-year-old Black/African American man. At approximately 1:20 a.m., police were dispatched to the 1300 block of North Hydraulic following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Bowen lying on the ground just south of a nightclub he had just exited, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal. Witnesses at the scene reported hearing several gunshots at the time of the incident.
The investigation into Bowen's death led Wichita police to identify a suspect, Brent Alan Cruz. In July 2022, the 35-year-old Wichita man was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Cruz, who has a documented history of gang affiliation and prior convictions for violent crimes including aggravated robbery and robbery, was held on a $500,000 bond.
Despite the initial arrest and charges, the path to justice for Nyron Bowen has been fraught with complications. Cruz was released from custody after meeting the requirements of his bond. However, he subsequently failed to appear for his trial. As a result, law enforcement agencies are once again actively searching for Cruz, who is now considered a fugitive. The Wichita Police Department has publicly requested assistance in locating him, urging anyone with information to come forward.
