In the quiet town of Cross Plains, Tennessee, the life of 42-year-old Brandon Rettich was tragically cut short on the evening of May 6, 2019. A resident of nearby Springfield, the male victim was found deceased at the intersection of East Robertson Road and Friendship Road, the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident, which unfolded around 7:30 p.m., was not a random act of violence but rather the culmination of an ongoing dispute.
The investigation, led by the Robertson County
Sheriff's Office, quickly identified a suspect: 22-year-old Marquis Waller of Nashville. Authorities reported that Waller fled the scene in a yellow Mustang immediately following the shooting. A warrant for criminal homicide was issued for Waller, who was described as a Black male, 6'1' tall, and weighing approximately 245 pounds.
A little over 24 hours after the incident, Marquis Waller surrendered to authorities, turning himself into the Robertson County Detention Facility on the evening of May 7, 2019. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in the death of Brandon Rettich and held without bond. The investigation determined that the shooting stemmed from a pre-existing conflict between the two men.
