The events of that Monday evening began to unravel just before 7 p.m.
when the Jackson County Sheriff's Office received a distressing 911 call. The caller, later identified as John's wife, 68-year-old Linda Marie Vidosh-Zempel, made a chillingly brief statement to the dispatcher, indicating that her husband was dead before abruptly ending the call. This cryptic message spurred an immediate response from law enforcement, who were dispatched to the couple's home at 15104 94th Road.
Upon their arrival, deputies were met with a tense and dangerous situation. They observed Linda inside the residence, armed with a firearm. Shortly after their arrival, a single gunshot echoed from within the house.
