In the early morning hours of September 1, 2022, the life of 24-year-old KeShawn Ivy, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Topeka, Kansas. Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of SW Lincoln Street shortly after 7 a.m. following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, first responders discovered Ivy suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite their efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Topeka Police Department promptly launched a homicide investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ivy's death. Detectives began processing the scene and seeking information from the public to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. In the immediate aftermath, no arrests were made, and authorities did not publicly identify any suspects. The investigation continued as Ivy's community mourned his sudden and violent death.
A few days later, another shooting occurred at the same location on SW Lincoln Street. This incident led to the arrest of 20-year-old Corey Robinson on charges including aggravated battery and criminal possession of a weapon. At the time of Robinson's arrest, law enforcement officials stated they were investigating a possible connection between this second shooting and the homicide of KeShawn Ivy. However, no further public announcements have been made confirming if Robinson was ever officially named a suspect or charged in Ivy's death.
