In the early morning hours of Friday, May 5, 2017, the life of 36-year-old Michael Dupree Price was tragically cut short on a sidewalk in Southeast Washington, D.C. Police responded to the 4600 block of Benning Road, SE, before 6 a.m. to find Price unconscious but still breathing, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
At the time of the incident, details surrounding the shooting were scarce.
Law enforcement officials began a homicide investigation into Price's death, but no information regarding a potential suspect or suspects was immediately released to the public. The investigation into who was responsible for the fatal shooting of Michael Dupree Price remains ongoing, and as of yet, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder.
Years after his own unsolved homicide, Michael Dupree Price was posthumously identified by police as the primary suspect in a cold case from 2002 involving the deaths of two transgender teenagers. However, this development has not brought authorities any closer to solving the mystery of who ended Price's life on that spring morning in 2017.
