In the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, D.C., a dispute tragically escalated, leading to the death of 37-year-old James Thomas Dunn. On September 22, 2018, the Black / African American male was shot multiple times. Despite efforts to save him, Dunn succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the altercation.
Witnesses reported seeing a male suspect, estimated to be between 25 and 30 years old with a medium build and wearing a dark hoodie and jeans, fleeing the area shortly
after the sound of gunshots. An investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department followed, leading authorities to a suspect.
Through a combination of forensic evidence linking him to the crime scene and information provided by several witnesses who came forward, police were able to identify and arrest 28-year-old Michael Johnson. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with James Thomas Dunn's death. The case against Johnson proceeded to trial, where he was found guilty of the charges. For his role in the death of James Thomas Dunn, Michael Johnson was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
