On a late Saturday night in Washington, D.C., a 19-year-old female named Zymia Joyner was killed in a burst of gunfire that erupted at an outdoor party. The incident, which took place on June 13, 2020, in the Congress Heights neighborhood, also claimed the life of 19-year-old Rashard Waldo and left five other people wounded.
The shooting occurred at approximately 11:37 p.m. in the 3100 block of Waclark Place, Southeast. When officers from the Seventh District of the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered multiple individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services transported Joyner and Waldo to a local hospital, but their injuries proved fatal, and both were pronounced dead.
The five other victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
In the aftermath of the violence, the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an investigation into the double homicide. Authorities have offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the deaths of Zymia Joyner and Rashard Waldo. However, to date, no arrests have been made in the case, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains ongoing as the community awaits justice for the young lives lost.
