Delonte Johnson, a 28-year-old male from Southeast, Washington, D.C., was shot and killed on the afternoon of Friday, June 11, 2021. The incident occurred around 1:39 p.m. in the 4600 block of Hillside Road, Southeast, where police responded to the sound of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Despite life-saving efforts, Johnson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The second victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an investigation into the shooting.
In the course of their investigation, detectives released images from a surveillance camera of a man they believed to be a suspect in the fatal shooting. This eventually led to a breakthrough in the case. On Wednesday, November 10, 2021, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, located and arrested a suspect.
The individual taken into custody was identified as 31-year-old Joshua Calvin Allen of Suitland, Maryland. He was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder while Armed in connection with the death of Delonte Johnson. In November 2024, the prosecution offered Allen a plea deal. The offer was to plead guilty to one count of second-degree murder while armed and one count of obstruction in a separate case, which would result in the dismissal of all other charges. A decision on the plea offer was expected by January 2025.
