In the summer of 2014, the life of a young woman was tragically cut short in a convenience store parking lot. Krystal Starr McAdow, a 23-year-old Caucasian female, was in her car on the evening of July 17, 2014, at a 7-Eleven on West Sahara Avenue in Las Vegas, Nevada, when the fatal encounter unfolded. Another man was with her in the vehicle at the time.
Suddenly, another man drove up next to her car. He fired a single shot through the windshield, striking McAdow in the chest.
Both the man in her car and the shooter fled the scene immediately after the gunshot. Emergency services were called, and McAdow was rushed to University Medical Center, but her injury was too severe, and she was pronounced dead. The Clark County Coroner's Office later confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest and ruled it a homicide. Her death marked the 70th homicide in Las Vegas that year.
The investigation into the senseless killing quickly pointed to a suspect. About a week after the shooting, on July 24, 2014, authorities apprehended 32-year-old Sam McFarland in Modesto, California. McFarland, who was identified as McAdow's ex-boyfriend, was arrested and awaited extradition back to Las Vegas to face charges in connection with her death. Reports suggested that the tragic incident may have been connected to methamphetamine. Court documents later revealed that McFarland was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm at the time of the shooting.
