In a quiet southwest valley neighborhood in Las Vegas, the lives of a young couple came to a tragic end on January 15, 2015. Won Jae Lee, a 26-year-old Asian man, was found deceased in the garage of a residence on Veneroso Street. His death was the result of a violent encounter that concluded a relationship and a life with startling finality.
Concerned friends, unable to reach the couple, prompted a police visit to the home.
Inside the garage, officers discovered the bodies of Won Jae Lee and 23-year-old Jiyeon Lee. Investigators determined that the two, who were in a dating relationship, had been involved in a physical altercation that began inside the house and moved into the garage. It was there that the confrontation reached its fatal climax.
The Clark County Coroner's Office later confirmed that Won Jae Lee died from gunshot wounds to the head and neck, ruling his death a homicide. Jiyeon Lee was found to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and her death was ruled a suicide. Metro Police concluded that Jiyeon Lee shot Won Jae Lee before taking her own life. As the perpetrator was also deceased, no arrests were made in what was classified as a murder-suicide. The incident left the community to grapple with the sudden and devastating consequences of the couple's final moments.
