In the early evening of a Thursday in Las Vegas, a long-simmering family feud erupted into violence, tragically ending the life of 76-year-old Hispanic male, Bacilio Garcia Vasquez. The fatal encounter unfolded at a residence on Riverside Drive, located near Rancho Drive and Vegas Drive. Vasquez and another man had driven to the home of relatives, and upon their arrival, they were met in the driveway by three other family members, sparking an argument.
The dispute, which had reportedly
been ongoing for about a year, escalated after 7 p.m., culminating in a shooting. Vasquez was fatally wounded at the scene, while the man who accompanied him was shot in the head and transported to University Medical Center in extremely critical condition. A gun was later found at the location, but authorities determined it belonged to the injured man, not the person who fired the fatal shots.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department identified 37-year-old Gerardo Campos-Torres as a person of interest in the case. While Campos-Torres did not reside at the house where the shooting occurred, his immediate family did live there. It was a family member from the residence who placed the call to police at 7:13 p.m. to report the incident. The specific cause of the year-long feud and the immediate argument that led to the deadly confrontation remained unclear to investigators. Police confirmed the conflict was contained within the family and was not related to gang activity.
