On February 23, 2016, a dispute over a drug deal tragically ended the life of 24-year-old Tyler Louis White in Las Vegas, Nevada. The White, Caucasian male was fatally shot outside the Nellis Suites on Las Vegas Boulevard North in the northeast part of the valley. The incident, which stemmed from an argument over painkillers, quickly escalated, leading to his untimely death.
The series of events that culminated in the shooting began earlier that day when White had arranged to purchase
Lortab for his friend, 21-year-old Colton Brantano. After the initial meeting at a 7-Eleven, a disagreement arose, with Brantano claiming White had taken his money without providing the drugs. This led to Brantano following White's girlfriend, Lauren Pinkston, with whom White was a passenger, from a Super 8 motel back to her apartment complex, the Nellis Suites.
In the parking lot of the complex, the situation intensified. Brantano, accompanied by his girlfriend Sherri Esquibel, blocked Pinkston's car and demanded the return of his money. He reportedly used a red baton to smash the taillight of Pinkston's vehicle. As a roommate of White and Pinkston emerged with a baseball bat, Brantano allegedly brandished a gun, causing the roommate to retreat. Shortly after, as White entered the parking lot, Brantano began shooting. White was struck at least twice and was later pronounced dead at University Medical Center from multiple gunshot wounds.
Following the shooting, Brantano and Esquibel fled the scene. After eluding law enforcement for several days, they turned themselves in to the authorities. Colton Brantano was subsequently arrested and booked at the Clark County Detention Center, facing charges of open murder with a deadly weapon and first-degree kidnapping. Sherri Esquibel was also considered a person of interest in the case. Another individual initially named as a person of interest was later cleared by the police.
