In the early hours of a Friday morning, the life of 32-year-old Angel Thompson, a Black/African American man, was tragically cut short. On March 24, 2017, in Henderson, Nevada, Thompson, a rapper and father, found himself at a gathering that would unexpectedly turn fatal. An argument erupted between Thompson and another man at the Lakewood Cove Apartments, located near East Warm Springs Road.
The dispute escalated with shocking suddenness, culminating in a single gunshot.
Thompson was struck in the buttocks, a wound that proved to be devastating. He collapsed at the scene of the altercation. Those present at the party rushed to his side, attempting to render aid and performing CPR while awaiting the arrival of emergency services. Despite their efforts, by the time first responders arrived at the apartment complex around 2 a.m., Thompson was unconscious and not breathing. He was declared dead at the scene.
Later that same day, the Henderson Police Department made an arrest in connection with the shooting. Gerald Polk, a 38-year-old man, was taken into custody. He faced multiple charges, including murder, possession of narcotics for sale, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Authorities revealed that Polk was a four-time convicted felon. He was subsequently booked into the Henderson Detention Center.
