In the early morning hours of April 28, 2017, the life of 26-year-old Raneisha Smith, a Black female from Las Vegas, Nevada, was tragically cut short. The incident unfolded at approximately 3:20 a.m. on the balcony of an apartment located in the 3300 block of Civic Center Drive. Smith was with another individual, a 25-year-old man, when gunfire erupted.
According to the Clark County Coroner's office, Smith sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.
Despite being rushed to University Medical Center, she succumbed to her injuries. Her death was officially ruled a homicide. The male victim was also struck by a bullet and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the North Las Vegas Police Department launched an investigation. However, details regarding a suspect or suspects were not released to the public. Early reports indicated that no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting.
