In a tragic incident on November 2, 2017, 14-year-old Giovanni Melton, a Black male, was shot and killed in Henderson, Nevada. The Coronado High School freshman was fatally wounded by his own father, Wendell Melton, in an apartment where the boy lived alone. The events of that day unfolded after Wendell went to the apartment to confront his son about skipping school.
