On the morning of the Fourth of July in 2023, the life of Susan Lillian Morgan, a 64-year-old White/Caucasian woman, was tragically cut short in her Henderson, Nevada home. The holiday was marked by a grim discovery when family members of a 70-year-old man contacted police with alarming news: he claimed to have killed his girlfriend and intended to take his own life.
When Henderson police arrived at the residence in the 2000 block of Pepperell, their attempts to make contact with the man
were unsuccessful as he refused to exit the home. The situation quickly escalated, prompting the response of SWAT and crisis negotiators. For approximately four and a half hours, authorities worked to de-escalate the standoff, but their efforts were in vain. The man ultimately died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Upon entering the residence, officers discovered Susan Lillian Morgan deceased at the scene. Investigators determined that her death was the result of a homicide, and the incident was classified as a murder-suicide. As the perpetrator was also deceased, no arrests were made in connection with Morgan's death. Friends and family remembered her as a vibrant and caring individual, and her sudden and violent death left the community in shock.
